Shopping alert: This weekend, beautiful baubles come to town by way of the philanthropic jewelry designer and Dallas native Ashley Pittman, as art adviser Robyn Siegel hosts a sample sale of Pittman’s bold, handmade collection in the Design District.
On many levels, Pittman’s pieces take inspiration from East Africa: She uses indigenous African materials such as horn, turquoise, bronze and semi-precious gemstones as the main elements of her designs; employs Kenyan artisans to make her pieces; and she has founded her namesake Ashley Pittman Foundation, which supports the Kathiani Primary School in Kenya. It’s chic and charitable, with ten percent of profits from the jewelry line going toward supplying the school with clean, de-salinated drinking water, new books and uniforms. We do love it when something is beautiful inside and out.
